Short story challenge: June 2017

Wednesday 21 June 2017 marked the shortest day of the year here in the Southern Hemisphere – the winter solstice. We’re currently having four and half fewer hours of daylight than we’ll get on 22 December (the longest day). Four and a half hours!

But it’s okay, because winter is a great time for writing. And in what is becoming a tradition (see our 2016 efforts here), we thought the shortest day deserved a shortest story challenge!

  1. Your mission, should you choose to accept it, is to write us a story of no more than 25 words.
  2. The only rule is that two of those words must be the randomly chosen “violin” and “victory”.
  3. Get creative – think outside the box! We’ll notice you if you do.
  4. Feel free to submit more than one story (but separately each time).
  5. You have until Friday 30 June 2017 to send us your story.
  6. We’ll publish our favourites in July.
  7. The very best story (as voted by us) will receive FREE access to our soon-to-be launched online course, Short Story Essentials!

We love sending out these challenges and seeing what you come up with! We’ll be showcasing as many of your stories as we can next month. To submit a story, just enter through the form below. Good luck!

(NOTE: If you win, we’ll contact you via email. Winners must acknowledge their win and provide a sending address within 7 days of notification or they will forfeit the prize and a new winner will be chosen.)
